- PRI & SIP Trunking
PRI & SIP Trunking
When utilizing an on-premise phone system, your lines of service are delivered via a 23-channel PRI or SIP Trunking. Depending on your phone system, the use of a PRI allows for up to 23 simultaneous calls. If you need more than 23 people on the phone at the same time, additional PRIs would be required. Other systems are configured using Session Initiation Protocol, also known as SIP Trunking. This is an over-the-internet exchange of voice, video, and instant messaging – in essence, they are sessions of communication occurring in milliseconds that provide good call quality. One of the benefits of SIP trunking is that you are not limited to the number of active lines – you can order as few or as many lines as you need for your environment.
These two legacy technologies are being largely phased out by the extensive benefits of today’s hosted VoIP systems
